Coastal Academy is a psycho-educational facility, servicing students from Kindergarten through 12th grade.  The school is one of a continuum of services offered by Camden County Schools to meet the needs of Special Education students.  Students are referred to Coastal Academy by a Student Support Team at their home schools.

Our purpose at Coastal Academy is to provide students with the least-restrictive, most appropriate education.  We strive to help our students develop those skills necessary to succeed in the regular school environment.  This is achieved by maintaining low teacher/student ratio and one-on-one support for students as needed.   All students participate in the Boys Town Model of Classroom Management.  This is a level system designed to teach basic social skills needed to succeed both within the classroom and in society.

Students at Coastal Academy continue to work within the Quality Core Curriculum.  We also provide instruction in coping skills.  Our students participate in activities designed to help them overcome fears and to realize that they can succeed when challenged.  One of the ways we do this is through regular use of the ROPES course.  Aided by trained facilitators, students participate in high and low elements designed to challenge them, both physically and mentally.  Elements vary from individual activities to those that can be completed only by working together as a team.
